Karl Gilligan

Founder and CEO

Karl Gilligan is the founder and CEO of Elite Performance Institute (EPI). He is a Strength & Conditioning Coach, Physical Therapist, public speaker and educator.

In 2012, he devised the National Certificate in Strength & Certificate (NCSC) course which has now become the industry leader in Strength & Conditioning Certification for fitness professionals. Since 2014 he has grown the courses internationally where they are now delivered in six countries worldwide. He is still very much at the forefront of course delivery and travels extensively both domestically in Ireland and internationally to meet and educate EPI course participants.

Karl has extensive experience working in elite sport having worked with the Ireland U-19 Rugby Team, Leinster Rugby, Olympic athletes, professional golfers, boxers and inter-county GAA football teams.

He qualified with a BSc (Hons) in Sport Science from St. Mary’s University, London, UK and then returned for his MSc in Strength & Conditioning. He was the first formally accredited member of the Irish Institute of Sport (IIS) in Strength and Conditioning, and is also a professional member with the NSCA (CSCS). He is also a qualified and practicing Physical Therapist and runs his clinic in south Dublin. His research interests include movement screens for injury prevention, power development and speed biomechanics.

He is a much sought after industry writer and speaker on strength and conditioning related topics having presented at conferences both nationally and internationally.

Karl was a keen sportsman during his playing days having represented his province Connacht in Rugby at all under age levels as well as London Irish U-19 & Development, University of Queensland in Australia, as well as various AIL teams in Ireland. Karl also represented his County Sligo at all underage levels in Gaelic Football.
